12. Cookies Policy

At Airfilter Engineering (AFE) we want our website to be reliable, useful, and easy to use. To help us improve our website and provide you with useful functionality, we use cookies, web beacons and other similar technologies across our sites. This means we sometimes place or access small bits of information on your device, including computers, smartphones, or tablets. So you can understand more about how cookies work, we include the following:

  • What cookies, web beacons and other similar technologies are
  • How we use cookies
  • Legal Basis for the use of cookies
  • How to manage your cookies

12.1 What are cookies, web beacons, and similar technologies?

Cookies are small text files (typically made up of letters and numbers) that your browser automatically creates places in the memory of your browser or device when you visit a website or view an email. Information is stored in the cookie, which results in connection with the specifically used terminal device. This does not mean, however, that we obtain direct knowledge of your identity. Cookies allow a website to recognise a particular device or browser during a visit and on subsequent visits. Cookies are used by websites to make their user’s experience more efficient. There are two main types of cookies:

  • Session cookies are only active during the time you’re viewing a particular website. They recognise your device as you move between pages, and are often used to keep you logged in when you move from page to page on a website. These are automatically deleted when you close your internet browser.
  • Persistent cookies remain active on your device for a set period of time. They can be used for things like remembering you for your next visit and recognising you when you return to a website, such that you don’t have repeat entries and settings that you have already made. They are very useful for remembering your username. These cookies are automatically deleted after a defined time.

As well as cookies, websites use other similar technology including web beacons. When we talk about cookies, we also mean these technologies that act in the same way. For clarity:

  • Web beacons are small graphic images (also known as “pixel tags” or “clear GIFs”) that may be included on sites, services, applications, messaging, and tools, that typically work in conjunction with cookies to identify your behaviour.
  • Other similar technologies can communicate information directly from our server to a third-party server, or can store information in your browser or device utilising local shared objects or local storage such as flash cookies, HTML 5 cookies, and other web application software methods. These technologies can operate across all of your browsers, and in some instances may not be fully managed by your browser and may require management directly through your installed applications or device.

12.2 How we use cookies

We include both Session and Persistent Cookies on our AFE websites, and use both our own (first party) and partners’ (third party) cookies, specifically Google Analytics. Cookies themselves do not store personally identifiable information.

Google Analytics Cookies

AFE site also includes certain components transmitted by Google Analytics, a web traffic analysis service provided by Google, Inc. (“Google). Third-party cookies collected and managed anonymously monitor and improve the performance of the host site. Google Analytics uses “cookies” to collect and analyse anonymous information about site usage behaviour including your IP address. This information is collected by Google Analytics, which processes them in order to draw up reports for the AFE site operators about activities on the websites themselves. This site does not use and does not allow others to use the Google Analytics tool to track or collect personally identifiable information. Google will not associate your IP address with any other data held by Google or seek to link, an IP address with the identity of a user. Google can also not communicate this information to third parties unless required by law or where such third parties process the information on Google’s behalf. You can selectively disable the action of installing Google Analytics on your browser component opt-out provided by Google.

Other Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.
